Bishop Basil of Amphipolis to Retire

It was announced last week that Bishop Basil (Osborne) of Amphipolis (formerly of the Sourozh Diocese) is to retire on health grounds. Bishop Basil, aged 71, only set up the Amphipolis group three years ago. He is to take his retirement in France, together with the two other retired bishops of the Paris Exarchate, the elderly Bishop Michael (Stor) and Bishop Paul (Alderson), who was retired a few years ago. The only active hierarch of the Paris Exarchate will therefore be Archbishop Gabriel of Comana. It is not known whether the 300-strong Amphipolis group will be swallowed up in the Greek Thyateira Archdiocese or whether they will continue as a separate Vicariate under a new head.
